Mr. Speaker, 8 months ago, the President put forth a supplemental disaster recovery funding request, and while Congress has failed to act, wildfires, hurricanes, and extreme weather conditions have continued to strike. On June 28, the President submitted to Congress an updated request for $700 million for the Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery program. These funds play an essential role in communities across the country in towns like Lahaina that have been devastated by fire and help to rebuild housing, infrastructure, and other facilities. The need for this request is urgent. As we look ahead to a hyperactive hurricane and wildfire season, working families and communities across the country are still struggling to rebuild homes and businesses ravaged by the impacts of the last storm cycle. Mr. Speaker, disaster does not discriminate, and it does not wait. I urge this House to immediately bring the disaster supplemental request up for a vote before we depart for the August recess. Doing so ensures we get the work of the people done and deliver much-needed relief to our communities across the country. ____________________
