The story of Americans of Japanese ancestry represents a complete lesson of democracy in action and exemplifies the American dream. From immigration in the late 1800s, to issues of citizenship in the early 1900s, to the incarceration of citizens and the heroics of Japanese-American soldiers during World War II, and to redress in the 1980s, the Japanese-American story is about the struggles and victories of individual freedoms in the United States.
