We are here today to honor a great American, a veteran, a civil rights leader, a social justice activist, and a tremendous talent, Mr. Ossie Davis. We lost him this past Friday, February 4, at the age of 87. Ossie once said, "Struggle is strengthening. Battling with evil gives us the power to battle evil even more." Empowered and inspired by his own struggle, Ossie fought for what was right. He fought with his voice, with his example, with his art. Above all, Ossie Davis was an artist.
