The tragedy that has continued to unfold in Afghanistan over the past 12 months weighs heavily on all Americans.

I think for any public official who has authority to say that there's an emergency... would naturally tend to cause excessive reaction.

The Afghan people and their struggle have not been forgotten and will not be forgotten by the rest of the world.

I am proud to sign this bill into law.
