Mr. Chairman, the voo-doo policies of the 1980's should have taught us something about Reaganomics. Yet, here we go again, Republicans are going to cut taxes for the wealthy and pay for them with cuts to student loans and heating assistance for the elderly poor. If you make $200,000 a year, Republicans feel your child is worth $500 dollars. But if you make $12,000 a year, your child is worth zero. We suspected this all along, but with this bill the Republicans have brought our worst nightmare to us live and in color. They go too far. With this bill, the rich are going to make out like bandits, and at the same time, the Republicans are adding another $750 billion to the deficit over the next 10 years. Mr. Chairman, Republicans are so fond of saying that a rising tide lifts all boats. But what they really mean is that a rising tide lifts all yachts, while the working class homes on shore, get washed away.
