I have been an elected official for 17 years, and never in those 17 years have I voted against the working people of the country. I rise today in opposition to this bill. This is another attempt by the Republicans to trample upon the rights of the American workers. Working men and women are the backbone of this country. As usual, this Republican bill ignores the problems of worker safety. It is the working men and women who have built up this country, and the Republicans would rather conduct a study than take real action to protect these men and women. Work-related injuries are a critical problem that affect more than 600,000 workers each year. OSHA is finally moving forward to develop a standard to prevent unnecessary injuries, and this bill would only cause those workers more pain. I urge my colleagues to stand up for the working men and women and vote 'no' on this bill.

I know this is not a perfect bill, but it is the perfect beginning. I say that over and over again because, as I stand here today, 27,000 of my constituents' votes were thrown out because of old equipment. Do my colleagues hear me…
Monday's plane crash was another devastating blow to the residents of New York and the citizens of this great Nation. Although we do not know the cause yet, I have been hearing it called a routine plane crash. God help us all if we ever…
