I would like to discuss NOAA's South Florida Ecosystem Restoration Initiative. Because of NOAA's scientific management capabilities, the agency plays a critical role in this massive restoration effort. Ten Members of the Florida delegation wrote to the committee on May 11 supporting NOAA's programs. Mr. Chairman, I rise to address two points. First, it is my understanding that the House will provide $2.6 million for this initiative and $1.3 million to the National Marine Fisheries Service to continue its restoration efforts. Second, I would ask the chairman if he would consider in conference the request of the National Ocean Service for a coral reef monitoring program.
