today I rise to welcome the visit of a man who holds one of the most ancient and revered positions in Christendom, His All-Holiness Bartholomew, the ecumenical patriarch of Constantinople and the spiritual leader of the Eastern Orthodox Church. His visit stands as a powerful symbol of the enduring role faith plays in a free society. It affirms the place of spiritual leadership in our world. It reflects the ongoing need to uphold religious liberty as a cornerstone of our constitutional order. Mr. Speaker, I warmly welcome him to the United States and thank him for a lifetime of service.
