When your national interests and our national interests are aligned – and they are, in so many areas – when what’s good for America is also good for you and vice versa, that is the foundation of these partnerships and these opportunities…

We in the United States want to see them thrive as independent states, and we want to partner with them as they do so.

Together, we can secure for our countries the resources, the investment opportunities, and the trade partnerships we need to remain – each of us – sovereign states, and to grow together our collective prosperity.

I hope they’ve learned that lesson. It seems like they now are, but it takes time now to reverse-engineer 20 years of both this green hyperbole in terms of believing they’re going to go completely green.
