The United States expects the freedoms of all sectors of Venezuelan politics to continue to be respected.

The alternative is going to be either violence and armed conflict within the country, or back to the way things have been for the last 20 years, which have not been good for the people of Venezuela.

You've got to change the infrastructure of the elections, not in 10 years, not in five years, not in two years. It needs to happen quickly under the timelines that we've established.

We do not want to be overly dependent on any country in the world.
