“I thank the gentleman for yielding. I had to take this opportunity to come to the floor to urge my GOP colleagues to allow a vote on closing the loophole that allows terrorists and terrorist suspects to go and purchase firearms and get a license for explosives. It is unbelievable that this loophole still exists. This is something that we can work together on to help keep our families safe all across America. And here is the state of the law. Currently, if you are a felon, you cannot purchase a firearm. If you are a fugitive, you cannot purchase a firearm. If you are a drug addict, you cannot purchase a firearm. If you have been convicted of domestic violence, you cannot purchase a firearm. Here is the loophole: If you are on the terrorist watch list and you cannot fly, you can still go into the gun store and purchase a firearm. This really is truly unbelievable. I ask the gentleman from Massachusetts (Mr. McGovern) to tell us again the statistic, based upon the GAO report, of how many people, terrorists, suspected terrorists, have been able to purchase firearms.
