“Mr. Speaker, the Long-Term Care Security Act that we are considering today is a consensus bill. It is reflective of the hard work and dedication of Members on both sides of the aisle. I want to begin by thanking my distinguished ranking member, the gentleman from Maryland (Mr. Cummings), for his continued hard work and cooperation through this process. I also appreciate the leadership of my predecessor as chairman of this subcommittee, the gentleman from Florida (Mr. Mica). The gentleman from Florida (Mr. Mica) initiated the subcommittee's examination of long-term care, introducing the first long-term care bill during last Congress. The gentlewoman from Maryland (Mrs. Morella) has also worked hard to create a long-term care insurance program for Federal employees and retirees. And I would also like to thank the chairman of the committee, the gentleman from Indiana (Mr. Burton), and the ranking member, the gentleman from California (Mr. Waxman), for their support and hard work on this bill, and so many others, Mr. Speaker, including just everybody on the subcommittee, who really have done so much to make this work. As chairman of the subcommittee, long-term care insurance has been my top priority.”
