It has been a pleasure to serve with the gentleman this year on the Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, State, the Judiciary and Related Agencies and to bring this appropriations bill to the floor today, which I very strongly support. The Republican leadership of this House has always made a commitment to the American people that we will provide the resources needed by the Census Bureau to conduct a full enumeration in accordance with the Constitution and the law, and we have provided that in a timely manner. Today, this Congress will fulfill that commitment, and we provide every dollar requested by the Census Bureau for the decennial census. While my colleagues on the other side of the aisle have said that the cost of the census has increased by $1.7 billion because of the Republican court challenge, nothing could be further from the truth. We took the administration to court because we believe that the plan they were putting forward violated the law and the Constitution.
