Donald Trump actually said...

He trafficked political smears from a foreign country and then pressured the DOJ to legitimize those smears through his personal lawyer.

It was coupled with this idea that he wanted his supporters to believe the press. The press was the enemy of the people.

That led to a violent attempt to steal the election on January 6th that included white nationalist mobs flying Trump and Confederate flags.

And then he abused the system of presidential pardons, bypassing the DOJ to reward his friends and accomplices who faced serious prison time...
