I support the President's request to make this grant to Iraq. It is the right thing to do from a military strategy, it is the right thing to do from a political strategy... We have a unique opportunity to create a Western, U.S.-friendly, democratic beachhead in the middle of what has been a very problematic area in the Middle East that could have tremendous positive implications in decades and decades to come.
