“I have a little town in my district, Kissimmee, Florida. It is right outside of Disney World. One of the tribes is looking at putting a casino there. Now, it has been said by one of my colleagues from Florida that the State of Florida has not been negotiating in good faith with the tribe. The fact is we have had three Statewide ballot referendums in the State of Florida, and this issue has gone down in smoke three times. We all say the will of the people should be sovereign. The height of this building is the highest in the city because the founders believed the power of the people was supreme. The people of the State of Florida have spoken very, very clearly. Now, we all talk about special interests and how we do not like special interests. As far as I am concerned, if a group of people who are interested, be they, I agree, an unfortunate and discriminated against group like the Indians somehow nonetheless want to go around the will of the people of the State of Florida and put Class III gaming in a very, very family friendly environment, I do not think that is right.”
