It is far more important for the Senate to engage in thorough debate, and for Senators to have the opportunity to call up amendments, than it is for the Senate to be out of session on Mondays and Fridays. It seems to me that we should be more busily engaged in doing the people's business. Instead, it seems to me...that the Senate is more concerned about relieving Senators who are up for reelection...from the inconvenience of staying on the job and working early and late, than in fulfilling our responsibilities to our constituents. Some might conclude that it is more important for Senators to have Mondays and Fridays in which to raise money for a reelection campaign than it is for us to give to our constituents a full day's work for a full day's pay.
