“the subcommittee has generously funded several alternative water source projects in west central Florida in the last two EPA budgets. These funds have provided critical support to assist with the development of new technologies and applications to help ensure that the fastest growing State in the country will be able to keep up with the ever-increasing demand for water for potable, agricultural, commercial, and industrial uses. The subcommittee's support for these programs has been greatly appreciated as Senator Graham and I have been working with our colleagues in both the Senate and the House to establish an authorized program for Florida and other Eastern States to assist with the development of alternative water sources similar to those currently available to most of the Western States through the Bureau of Reclamation. Although the subcommittee was not able to make any funds available during fiscal year 1997 for the projects in Florida, I want to thank the chairman for his past support and look forward to working with him to address this important concern in next year's appropriations bill for EPA.”
