“southwest Florida is one of the fastest growing areas in the country. Not surprisingly it is also my understanding that RSW is the third fastest growing airport in the United States. Additionally, I am told RSW has experienced an average annual growth of 9.2 percent over the past ten years. Due to this unprecedented growth, RSW has embarked upon a major expansion program which includes construction of a new terminal and runway. This project is one of the State of Florida's most important airport projects and it has received substantial funding from the State. Moreover, the Federal Aviation Administration has provided discretionary funding for this worthy project due, in no small part, to the support of the distinguished Chairman of the Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee, Senator Shelby, and his subcommittee over the past two years through the prior Transportation Appropriations bills. I very much appreciate the support of the Senator for RSW and its expansion project.”
