I have been dismayed at the concerted and continued vicious attacks on Hillary Rodham Clinton which began in earnest in August 1992. These attacks have continued unabated ever since. These attacks have originated in what is the extreme right wing of American politics. I have been shocked at the venom of these attacks. I have been wondering what Mrs. Clinton did to create such hatred. I have had the opportunity to work with Mrs. Clinton. She is a devoted mother to her daughter, but the right wing believes in motherhood, so they say. She works hard to support her husband in his endeavors, but the right wing believes that a wife should support her husband's efforts. She works very hard to improve the quality of family life for all Americans, but the right wing says it champions the family. For years she worked in the private sector and engaged in capitalistic activities, but the right wing says it reveres capitalism. I just could not figure it out for the longest time. Hillary Rodham Clinton is a brilliant, professional woman who has successfully balanced family and career, Hillary Clinton has developed a substantive health care plan for all Americans--she got us started in a debate that will culminate in a health delivery mechanism second to none. Mr. Speaker, Hillary Clinton is a smart, efficient woman, and I say to her, "Stand by your man, Hillary. We're behind you."
