“I want the Members of the Congress to know that we are getting our job done. When we pass the next bill today, we will have sent all 13 appropriation bills to the President, along with the two supplementals that the President had asked for. We are doing it without a massive omnibus appropriations bill like we saw last year, and that most all of us pledged not to let happen again. I want to thank my friend, the gentleman from Wisconsin (Mr. Obey). While we have had some fairly strong political differences, and we have had different approaches to our positions, the fact is that we have worked together very well, and we have cooperated with each other in order to get the job done. Let me tell the Members how the job has been done. If we look at this chart, there are 30 items on this chart that the Committee on Appropriations will have done at the end of this day, 30 items. I challenge any other committee in the House or the Senate to have produced 30 measures to bring before their body for votes.”
