“If I may, this is a matter which can easily be worked out. The questions the Senator from New Hampshire are raising are very legitimate questions. It is a matter that can easily be worked out if the administration is given some direction. For example, approximately a year and a half, 2 years ago, the Acting Director of the Food and Drug Administration, Mr. Crawford, made it clear to this Senator that the FDA was not going to object to private prescriptions for Americans coming from Canada for a limited supply-- such as 90 days for personal use--which is the biggest part of the objection the Senator from Louisiana and this Senator from Florida have, that senior citizens are being prohibited from getting the great discounts they can get either by ordering them from the Internet, by mail, or personally going over to Canada. If there were an intention to work out this problem, it could be done between all of these agencies that the Senator from New Hampshire is raising.”
