Would the Senator believe that if the Department of Homeland Security is shut down that essential personnel will be required to work, but essential personnel--the following--will not be paid? For the first time people engaged in the war--namely, the U.S. Coast Guard that is in fact involved in the Middle East in the war, along with the services from the Department of Defense--for the first time in the history of this country they will be essential to continue work but will not be paid. Would the Senator believe that in addition, Customs and Border Patrol personnel who are essential, as well as TSA, which is essential, will continue to work but without pay and that is what will happen this Friday if we do not fund the Department of Homeland Security?
