It’s very difficult to take any of the five permanent members with veto rights over anything that goes on in the Security Council, it’s hard to get them off.
Putin wants the world to travel back in time to a time before the United Nations, to a time when empires rule the world. But the rest of the world has moved forward. It is not 1919. It is 2022.
We are stronger than we ever were before in terms of the European Union, NATO. All of this was not part of Putin`s plan. I think he thought that we would start to fray around the edges very, very quickly.
But we have used the Security Council, we have used the General Assembly to isolate Russia, to condemn Russia, to kick Russia off of the Human Rights Council.
