On behalf of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, it is my privilege to rise in support of H. Res. 1513. This measure congratulates the Saratoga Race Course on its 142nd season. The Saratoga Race Course was opened August 3, 1863, and it is the oldest organized sporting venue of any kind in the United States. The course is a top destination for tourists from all over the country and from all over the world. It now receives over 1 million visitors each year and supports thousands of jobs in Saratoga Springs and the surrounding communities. Mr. Speaker, this venerable race course is one of the world's greatest sporting venues. It has continued many of its original traditions since its founding and has contributed to the town of Saratoga receiving the First Great American Place award from the American Heritage Magazine in 1997. Let us now take the time to congratulate this historic race course on its 142nd season through the passage of this measure. I urge my colleagues to support it.
