I would like to thank subcommittee Chair Rick Crawford for holding this hearing on transportation regulations.

Mr. Speaker, today, I introduce the Federal Employee Short-Term Disability Insurance Act of 2026, which would make short-term disability insurance available to federal employees.

H.R. 8505 would provide FMCSA with better tools to root out unscrupulous actors, which are also harmful to consumers and highway safety.

Our local police force should not be subject to federalization, an action that wouldn't be possible for any other police department in the country.
