But there is another wonderful provision of the bill that I want to point out to my colleagues. It allows our seniors to participate in a demonstration project if they are diagnosed with advanced stage congestive heart failure, diabetes, or coronary heart disease. These are the very seniors with the highest drug costs, and participating in these disease management programs will enable them to get their pharmaceuticals essentially covered and through a disease management approach they will get support in recovering and adopting preventative health life style changes, following all of their doctor's orders, that will improve their health and reduce their health care costs all the while covering their drug costs. It has been proven that disease management lowers hospital costs, lowers doctor costs, lowers emergency costs. Good for Medicare and good health for seniors.
