Nanotechnology is what scientists and technologists often call an enabling technology--a tool that opens the door to new possibilities constrained only by physics and the limits of our imaginations. This field has the great potential to affect our economy and quality of life since it has such broad prospective applications in so many different areas including medicine, electronics, energy, telecommunications, computing, and manufacturing.
