I have to point out that the gentleman from Pennsylvania (Mr. Weldon), who has been a tremendous help to me since I have been a Member of Congress, is an early signer onto this bill. He has also been very active with the Congressional Fire Services Caucus as well, and I think intuitively he understood how important this is. I think once the Members get to see, and we already have more than 70 Members who have signed on, but I believe that people will sign onto H.R. 3161 because of its commonsense approach. That is what we are seeking to do here is to not only engage our local officials, but also recognize that they are on the front line, and not just pay them lip service but actually provide them with the funding to carry out the strategic planning, as well as providing them with the equipment and the expertise they will need if we are going to send them into battle.
