On the recordApril 28, 1994
as you may have noticed, there are many new faces in the Chamber today, including my 14-year-old daughter, Christina Maloney, and her classmates Carolina Dorson and Kate Slattery. A number of Members and I are bringing our daughters to work today, in an annual event to celebrate the talents of women in a wide variety of jobs--so that our daughters will know early in their lives that they can choose goals and work toward wherever their vision leads them. Today happens also to be the day when the Supreme Court is hearing a case on court-mandated safety zones around health clinics. And so today we support the principle of those safety zones, so that we and our daughters as they grow up can use health facilities and services without fear of violence by antiabortion extremists. Ninety percent of American women receive their health care in such clinics. The right to choose is meaningless without the ability to choose. It is fitting that we stand together, mothers and daughters, in support of women's freedom to choose.
