I rise, late this morning, to speak on the nomination of Alberto Gonzales to serve as the Attorney General of the United States. I would further suggest that to consider this nomination as only or even principally as a matter of ethnic pride does a disservice to the Latino, the Hispanic community. As far as I can tell, members of that community are no different than people throughout our great Nation. They want to know not only who you are and what you are, but also what you think and what you believe in. They want to know if a person nominated to be this Nation's chief law enforcement officer will uphold the rule of law.
