I know the Chairman knows that the veterans in VISN 1 live in a region that stretches from Connecticut to Maine. The budget for our region's medical care has dropped from $854 million in fiscal year 1996 to $809 million in fiscal year 1998. I have been informed by the Department of Veterans Affairs that the New England region will endure yet another budget cut in fiscal year 1999. I hope that the Appropriations Committee will take note of the impact these reductions are having on facilities across New England.
