The standard industry practice is to prepare the financing documents so that the customer is not alerted in any manner that the person with whom he is dealing has the ability to control the customer's price of credit. This allows the finance arranger to present himself as the ally of the customer, which further relaxes and disarms the customer. The nature of the transaction creates the perfect opportunity for a dealer to obtain a large kickback from an unsuspecting customer by subjectively inflating their interest rates. This is not a time to do so much damage, in my view, to these young men and women in uniform.
