“It is entitled, ``School Choice for the Rich.'' The Senate is to take up today a proposal to use the tax code to provide public funds to private schools through the back door. Fifty million kids and their parents are asking the question: What are you doing about my kids' school? I understand 5 million kids whose parents would like us to do something about tax relief for them if they go to private schools, but I think we have a higher obligation to the parents of those 50 million who have no choice. Those who made the choice of going to private school made that choice. I respect it, but the parents who send their kids to public schools are not, unfortunately, in the same category.”
