“Peter Fitzgerald is also a good friend. He has represented his State of Illinois and is leaving after only one term. Again, as Senators from the opposite sides of the aisle, Senator Fitzgerald and I often disagreed. We found some common ground on some issues, including the Patients' Bill of Rights, the gun show loophole, and campaign finance reform. I wish him good luck when he returns to the private sector where he has been an extremely successful attorney in the banking industry. I caution him not to do too well. I am on the Senate committee responsible for overseeing that carefully. I say that, of course, with tongue in cheek. I certainly wish he, Nina, and Jake all the best in the years to come.”
