I support the amendment. I think this is a strong amendment that will require the FDIC...to change how it charges for deposit insurance...This is a great help to community banks across the country...The change will help ease the burden of FDIC assessments on our community banks by requiring the largest banks in the country to shoulder a little more of the responsibility to rebuild and maintain a sound deposit insurance fund. The amendment is fundamentally about fairness, which I think is one of its most important features. Community banks, as we all know, have been victims of a severe economic recession brought on by the behavior of major Wall Street firms.
