“I think, although all of us come from a little bit different perspective on the ultimate path forward on the parameters of that health care reform effort, we know that it can advance all three legs. We can get a more affordable system that covers more people for better quality than we have now. And I don't think it's too ambitious to suggest that we're going to get a system of coverage that covers everybody for less money than we're spending today. If you shift the money from crisis care to preventative care, if you start pooling the purchasing ability of the people that are paying, you can drive down the cost and expand out the number of people. And that sounds impossible. I mean, how do you get more for less? But every other country has shown a way to do that. We're not going to copy other countries' systems. We're going to create our own, taking already from the best that we have. But we can do both, Mr. Altmire.”
