“few things that we do in this life have significance as we go 10, 20 years down the road; but the work that we are doing today in this Chamber has enormous significance. Partial birth abortion defies logic. I try to imagine how an individual could even come up with this thing that is called euphemistically a ``procedure.'' I am trying to imagine in my mind how a doctor, who is calling on his or her life to be a healer, to extend life for individuals, came up with this procedure. I am trying to imagine how sticking scissors into the brain of a child that is partially born is called a ``medical procedure'' that is to benefit the life of the mother, the mother whose body is getting ready to birth this child, a woman who is going through all of the things that we have gone through, getting ready to have the child. It is an important thing in this Nation today that we have acknowledged what this really is, and it is a good day in America when our President will sign the partial-birth abortion ban into law.”
