I am here to speak for the people I represent, the hardworking and really hard-pressed men, women, and children and businesses of the 37th Congressional District.

The Public Record
Coming as we do from all regions of the country and both sides of the aisle, the testimony you hear today is a fair reflection of the collective hopes and dreams of the American people.
I supported the President's decision to work in an expeditious way to assist with the relief and efforts by deploying U.S. military and FEMA's urban search and rescue teams and any other assets that might be required in the region.
I would say that out of the testimony, and we have heard from the first hearing the extent of radicalization in the American Muslim community and the community response.
I proudly lend my voice as a dissenting view to the approach used at examining homegrown terrorism.
The narrow scope of this hearing is discriminatory and demonstrates an abuse of power.
So as a minority, I would advocate to people, in particular minorities, that they should have their attorney present when being investigated.
It creates a narrative that this Government is against you and it creates a narrative that it is anti-Islam and anti-Muslim.
