Raúl Manuel Grijalva is an American politician serving as the U.S. Representative for Arizona's 3rd congressional district since 2003. A member of the Democratic Party, Grijalva has been an advocate for environmental protection, education, and healthcare reform throughout his tenure in Congress. It is something that we have seen in the Ken Burns documentary now in terms of preserving our Federal lands either as national parks, national monuments.
The inconsistent argument that I have also read from Congressman Bishop is that somehow the enabling act for Utah becoming a state requires that the Federal Government sell all of its lands and give 5 percent of the proceeds to the state.
These lands are rich with archeological remnants of prehistoric cultures, and they are a haven for outdoor recreation enthusiasts, scientists, hikers, educators, wildlife enthusiasts and many, many more.
Mr. Secretary, let me first tell you how many of us are pleased with the administration of your Department, many initiatives, much movement in the first 7 months with an Interior than we saw for the previous 10 years.
The Grand Canyon, to me, and not just from Arizona, is one of the shared treasures of this country.

The intent of this legislation, from the onset, and it continues to be its intent, is to protect and preserve the Grand Canyon for future generations.
I think the legislative history you have provided in your testimony was important in disputing that claim, but I am wondering, were there other instances in which Chairman Udall advocated revisiting or expanding on his own legislative…
One other point, Mr. Trautwein. As you know, there was a letter to me from Senator Kyle and Senator McCain that specifically said that AWA foreclosed Congress from taking any further action on the lands adjacent to the Grand Canyon.
