Over the last week on our side, we have listened to some of our colleagues suggest that Republicans have obstructed action on important matters here. I want to ensure that with respect to protecting our seniors through the service of the Medicare physicians who take care of them, that we are able to meet a deadline on the statute which expires at the end of this month to ensure they continue to be paid. One of my colleagues yesterday said Senate Republicans had refused to give Senate Democrats the opportunity to ensure quality health care for American seniors. Yet following those remarks, the minority leader propounded two unanimous consent agreements which would have permitted us to move forward to consider two bills that would preserve Medicare beneficiaries' access to care.
