“They don't think they have lost this war, contrary to some on the other side of the aisle here. They don't think they have lost, and they believe they can succeed in their mission. The kind of defeatist talk I have heard here, unfortunately, it seems to me, leads to the notion that it is a question of which one of them, which one of these brave soldiers or marines or airmen or sailors are going to be the last one to die in a failed cause. That is not the message we should be sending from the Senate. It is not the message the political leaders, who should be supporting these troops, should be sending--not just to the troops and to their families but also to our allies and our enemies.”
