“It is essentially a choice between the Democratic leadership trying to do this in a partisan way by simply bringing up the House bill and trying to push that through, or getting together, as we have done in the past, in a bipartisan way, to ensure that the tax provisions we all support and we all want extended into law are done in a way that does not require that taxes be increased in some other part of the Tax Code. Republicans do not believe it makes sense to keep existing tax policy right where it is by having to raise taxes in another part of our economy, sometimes on the very same people who are paying the tax we are extending.
