Jon Kyl: “Just to conclude, the budget says expiring provisions are accommodated, but I don't think the Senate is going to raise…”

On the recordMarch 13, 2008
Just to conclude, the budget says expiring provisions are accommodated, but I don't think the Senate is going to raise $50 billion in new taxes to pay for these, to pay permanently for 1 or 2 years of these extenders. In fact, in recent times, more often than not, we have extended these tax provisions without offsets. In fact, this was done when the Democratic Party was in control of this Chamber, of this body, in the year 2002. So what this amendment does is it simply explicitly extends all of these expiring tax provisions, which would expire at the end of this year and that have already expired, and it would not be required to have a permanent increase in taxes in order to accommodate that extension.
