John McCain's own test for vice president was somebody who would be ready to lead on day one.

They need a national platform and a TV audience to counter that message and make the case for John McCain.

They believe they did the right thing on Monday. They are hoping to get back into their political convention on Tuesday.

George W. Bush was supposed to be here in the hall. He is, of course, popular with Republicans but unpopular in the country as a whole.
