Senator John McCain, SASC Chairman, and Members included a provision in the FY 17 National Defense Authorization Bill directing the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs to model, assess and report on a new prototype ground combat maneuver formation, the Reconnaissance Strike Group (RSG).
