John McCain: “In 1986, I was around here and we passed legislation that gave, 'amnesty' to three million Americans.”

I especially want to acknowledge the leadership of Senator McCain of Arizona who introduced the Native American Languages Act (NALA) in 1990.

I want to say to all of you that I am so honored to be here to speak before this Committee.

I have to recognize that it has been this body, this Senate Committee, very important Committee on Indian Affairs that has been helping us.

We owe each other our respect as long as our character merits respect.
