I rise in opposition to Amendment No. 1726. I appreciate the concerns of my colleague from New Mexico regarding the challenges facing Americans in rural areas and those in need of nutrition assistance. However, this amendment indicates there is not a single dollar--not a single dollar--to be saved from waste, fraud, or abuse in the programs with the Agriculture Committee's jurisdiction. It is possible to identify commonsense savings within the Agriculture Committee's jurisdiction while ensuring our Federal nutrition programs and farm programs are well-targeted and continue to be responsive to those in need. I urge my colleagues to vote no on the amendment.
