Today I am proud to join my colleagues in support of fundamental American values, among which are commitments to religious freedom, human rights, and religious expression. As a Catholic, my faith plays a significant role in every aspect of my life and fosters a respect for the religious rights and freedoms of others. Next week, the Supreme Court will hear from our religious non-profit organizations, including the Little Sisters of the Poor, which have challenged the HHS mandate and its impact on their religious rights and freedoms. I believe in the importance of patient-centered health care for women, and I also want to ensure that conscience rights and religious liberties are protected. At its core, this case is about the state forcing religious organizations to provide for services that violate their beliefs. ____________________
