I couldn't think of a better time to hold this hearing, considering that this year marks the 160th anniversary of the awarding of the first Medal of Honor, and today is also the 175th anniversary of the start of the women's suffrage movement.

These are hearings that we try to do across the country, in many different places, to address the concerns of the Natural Resources Committee.
Congress dedicate up to $1.3 billion annually in existing revenue from the development of energy and mineral resources on Federal lands and waters to the Wildlife Conservation Restoration Program.
I am concerned that we are getting behind, and we are allowing people who don't have our best interests at heart to develop these standards, where the US has generally been a leader in standards development around the world.
Thank you for the opportunity to testify during the Energy and Mineral Resources Subcommittee Hearing.
